“It is so important for everyone across the country to dare to be

struggles are not the same as their own. Feeding America does just that, and
it’s a great privilege for me to unite with them in their cause,” said Crow.
“Rock a Little, Feed a Lot” is one of many initiatives in the works
for Feeding America’s Hunger Action Month and will benefit both Feeding America
and its local member, the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank. Hunger
Action Month, formed to help those in need, bloomed from a day of service into
a month-long campaign as the economy has taken a turn for the worse and the
demand for food assistance has increased.
“Many Americans are unaware of the great demand for food assistance
throughout the country. The need for food assistance nationwide has
increased 30 percent throughout the last year and in many communities the
increase is much higher,” said Vicki Escarra, president and CEO of Feeding
America. “We are excited to team up with so many talented artists to shed
light on Hunger Action Month and the issue of hunger in America.”
“We are so grateful for the generous support of these artists -- and
residents of Los Angeles -- for their time and efforts to raise awareness about
hunger in America,” said Michael Flood, President & CEO of the Los Angeles
Regional Foodbank. “The agencies we serve are experiencing unprecedented demand
for food assistance and this event will help shine the bright spotlight of the
entertainment community on the issue of hunger in America.”

About the Sarah McLachlan Foundation:
The Sarah McLachlan Foundation was founded in 1999, inspired by the vision of founding partner, international singer and songwriter, Sarah McLachlan. The Foundation’s mandate is simple: to bring music into the lives of young Canadians, through providing free music programs to youth in under-served communities. The impact of participation is profound: building self-esteem, and fostering creativity in young people through the power of music.
In 2002, The Foundation launched its first school, Sarah McLachlan Music Outreach - An Arts Umbrella Project, in Vancouver's inner city, offering students free music instruction in guitar, piano, percussion, voice, rock band, music fundamentals and choir. This innovative program reaches over 200 students, grades 2 through 12, offering group and private lessons, practice rooms, and a media lab to create original works of music. The school provides an inspiring, secure place where students go to learn, practice, and connect with friends. Students acquire a life-long appreciation of music, and enthusiasm for learning, but most importantly, Sarah McLachlan Music Outreach offers a nurturing environment where young people learn important life skills, are free to explore their creative potential and develop peer connections that will last a lifetime.
Sheryl was once again invited to sing the National Anthem at the All Star Game. After that challenging (and successfully completed) task she was able to relax and take in the game with family members and long time Nashville friend Sara Evans who was there to sing God Bless America during the 7th Inning Stretch
As part of the All-Star Game festivities Sheryl played a massive open air concert on Jul 11th under the Arch in St Louis. The night revealed, not only an audience of 50,000 but an excellent meeting of the musical minds of Sheryl and Elvis Costello.

I've been thinking about my time with Michael Jackson a lot lately. It is hard for me to put into words how important that time was. How life-changing. How very defining a time it was for me and what a turning point it would become. I will never be able to look back on the career I have had and not be grateful to Michael Jackson for giving me my first shot.
From the BAD Tour came my most important relationship in my career and certainly the best friend I could ever have. Scooter, my manager for nearly 2 decades, worked as the liaison between Michael and the sponsor, Pepsi. He was the one person who expressed his belief in my talent and invested in me from that time forward.
But, the most major impact working with Michael, or Mike, as we all called him, was Michael himself. I cannot begin to express the magnitude of the talent embodied in this individual. When Mike would come into the room, the molecules would change. He was seemingly not of this world and in one of the few conversations I had with him, I believe he felt he was not of this world. Or, if he was of this world, he could not quite figure out how to fit into it without having the impact that he had.
My fondest memories are not of the faux passion we shared during the duet, "I just Can't Stop Loving You" or the flirting during "The Way You Make Me Feel," but the moments I stole watching him perform "Human Nature" from offstage, doubling him on the high notes. His delivery of that song, his gravity-defying moves, were beyond regular. His talent were truly art. And, surreal, in the truest sense of the word. I can call up the amazement as if it was yesterday.
Other moments, like singing harmonies of "Rock With You," "You Are My Lovely One," "Startin' Something," almost gave him the appearance of being normal. But, he was anything but normal. And, while I got to stand close enough to get a glimpse into what was not so normal about this singing/dancing/iconic sensation, nothing any of us ever think we knew about this person should ever overshadow what made him special and what drew us all in from the moment he came on the scene as a small boy.
I will not be at the memorial today for a number of reasons. I am in the middle of doing some tour dates that have me in the Midwest but more than that, the spectacle of it all has nothing to do with the gratitude that I feel this magnificently, unique talent graced this world for a moment in time. The hoopla cannot begin to compete with the memories I got to experience on an intimate level. Although Mike might love what is going on today in his honor, I, like so many other people who loved him, will continue to quietly rejoice in the knowingness that his soul is at peace.
