Johannesburg, South Africa (March 17, 2010) – Today, Control Room, the world’s leading producer of global music events, and FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association), the international governing body of football, announced the first group of legendary musicians confirmed to perform at the FIFA WORLD CUP KICK–OFF CELEBRATION CONCERT. Alicia Keys, Amadou & Mariam, Angelique Kidjo, Black Eyed Peas, BLK JKS, John Legend, Juanes, Shakira, The Parlotones, Tinariwen, Vieux Farka Touré, and Vusi Mahlasela will perform at the historic event taking place the night before the first match at 8:00 p.m. local time (GMT+2) on June 10, 2010, at the newly-renovated Orlando Stadium in Soweto/Johannesburg.
“We in South Africa are blessed to be hosting two first-time events – the first FIFA World Cup held on the African continent and the first FIFA World Cup Kick-off Celebration concert – and I believe these historic events will go a long way towards uniting the people of our rainbow nation in South Africa as well as further strengthening our relationships with our brothers and sisters on the African continent,” said Lucas Radebe, former South African football international and participant in the Kick-off Concert. “After All, this is an African World Cup being staged in South Africa. Music and Sports are the lifeblood of African culture, so to combine those in this historic event will be a true celebration of African Culture.”
FIFA World Cup football tournament is the world’s most watched sporting event, and is staged every four years. This is the first time the FIFA World Cup is being held on the African continent, with 32 national teams from all over the world playing matches in ten South African stadiums in the hope of being crowned World Champions. The last FIFA World Cup in Germany attracted a global cumulative television audience of 26.29 billion (24.2 billion in-home and 2.1 billion out-of-home viewers).

Three-time Grammy Award winning recording artist, The Black Eyed Peas announced today that Ludacris will be joining opening act LMFAO on their highly anticipated world tour. Described as the ultimate Black Eyed Peas party experience, it also marks the first time that the group - will.i.am, apl.de.ap, Taboo and Fergie - is united for a North American headline tour since their 2006 Monkey Business world tour.
The Black Eyed Peas, who are nominated for six Grammy Awards including Album Of The Year for THE E.N.D. and Record of The Year for "I Gotta Feeling", will perform Sunday night, January 31 at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards live on CBS.
2009 was a monumental year for The Black Eyed Peas, starting with the March release of "Boom Boom Pow" - not only the group’s first #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 but one of the top dozen or so longest-charting singles in Hot 100 history, 12 weeks at the top. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, thousands of LA youth will rally as one to run and to show an amazing demonstration of support for the millions of people affected by the Haiti devastation. As a fund-raising vehicle for the Haitian Earthquake Relief, film and television actor, Josh Duhamel, is mobilizing relief by pulling together a youth run, “Youth Run 4 Haiti.” Duhamel has joined forces with American Red Cross of Santa Monica to inspire and empower youth around the globe to unite and Run 4 Haiti.
Josh Duhamel has a long history of supporting the American Red Cross and has taken the Santa Monica chapter under his wing.
Aligned with his advocacy in adolescent diabetes and youth fitness, Josh is promoting a physical health and humanitarian movement. Leading the pact, along with his personal trainer, Don Brooks of Don-A-Matrix Training, he and thousands of youth will run on the beach of Santa Monica. Rallying together, this movement will make a powerful statement for youth across the world. It will be an expression of their connection to the pain and the suffering of Haiti victims. The reward for “Youth Run 4 Haiti” runners is priceless; the feeling of accomplishment among the youth will be tremendous. Being a part of history and this movement will be an experience like no other for the youth.

The Run
The emergency response two mile youth run will be on the Santa Monica Beach. Children of all ages are invited and encouraged to join in the run which will start north of the Pier, go up the beach for one mile and return to the start area for a total of two miles. Young children entering the run are asked to bring a parent along.
Runners will assemble adjacent to the "1550 Pacific Coast Highway" parking lot immediately north of the Pier at 9 a.m. where they will register for the run and pay a minimum $10 entrance fee which will entirely go to the American Red Cross for earthquake relief efforts in Haiti. Youth of all ages will be able to participate in the run.

American Red Cross Responds to Devastation
Information about Haitian relief efforts can also be found on the chapter web site. The American Red Cross has pledged to assist people and communities impacted by the earthquake in Haiti, and is prepared to take further action as local responders assess the situation.
There is widespread damage in Port au Prince and continuing aftershocks. The American Red Cross is deploying disaster management specialists, medical and other relief supplies to Haiti. Estimates are more than a million people may be homeless and the death toll could easily be in the tens of thousands. Injuries are too numerous to estimate... Support for the relief effort from the public is urgently needed.
The American Red Cross of Santa Monica, is a publicly supported, 501(C)(3) nonprofit corporation that provides health and safety education, youth services, blood services, CPR and first aid training, disaster awareness and disaster relief efforts.
