MATRIARCH/GEFFEN RECORDS RELEASE SOUNDTRACK TO FALL SEASON’S MOST ANTICIPATED MOVIE, THE PRIZE WINNING “PRECIOUS: BASED ON THE NOVEL ‘PUSH’ BY SAPPHIRE”
MARY J. BLIGE’S “I CAN SEE COLOR” IS FIRST SINGLE TO BE RELEASED
Matriarch/Geffen Records in association with Lee Daniels Entertainment, Smokewood Entertainment, Lionsgate, Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry will release the soundtrack to the fall season’s must-see film, the prize-winning drama “Precious: Based On The Novel By Sapphire.” The soundtrack is Executive Produced by Lee Daniels and Mary J. Blige and will be available online on November 3, 2009 and in stores on November 23, 2009. “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ By Sapphire” premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Grand Jury Prize, Audience Award and a Special Jury Prize for Acting; it has since screened at such prestigious venues as the Cannes International Film Festival, the New York Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival, where it won the People’s Choice Award; it is slated to open in select theatres on November 6, 2009.
The musical companion features tracks from voices that are some of the most gifted and admired artists in music history. Lee Daniels states, “Precious’s story is about learning to love yourself, and that is a universal story. What better may to express such a powerful message than with the music from artists such as Mary. J. Blige, Queen Latifah, Nona Hendryx, Jean Carne, Grace Hightower and Mahilia Jackson – artists that resonate not only in Precious’s world but speak to your soul no matter who you are.”
Blige contributes an original recording of the soul-stirring “I Can See Color,” the first single from the soundtrack, which was written by Mary, Raphael Saadiq and LaNeah Menzies and is produced by Raphael Saadiq.

R&B singer Mary J. Blige gave back to her hometown of Yonkers, New York earlier this week, when she opened her new facility, the Mary J. Blige Center for Women.
Blige and Hip-Hop mogul Steve Stoute founded the Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now (FFAWN) in 2008, as a way to encourage women by supporting educational programs, career development, self-esteem and personal growth.
