Nearly 25 years after its release, it feels like the world is still catching up to British electronic duo Frou Frou’s sole album. One of the few 2000s electronic albums whose majestic songwriting rivals its minutely intricate production, this 2002 album helmed by recording artist, singer, and producer Imogen Heap and songwriter, producer Guy Sigsworth elevated the genre past the Muzak-lite it had become and into a new era.
“In addition to the downy sweetness of ’00s radio pop,” Pitchfork wrote, “Details has the slippery textures of electronic music, the sonorous opulence of classical, and the melancholia of trip-hop.” “Let Go,” buoyed partly by its prominent inclusion in Garden State, was justifiably inescapable, yet “Breathe In,” “Must Be Dreaming” and “Hear Me Out” remain both of its time and completely timeless.
